Freycinet is located on the east coast of Tasmania and named after a French navigator Louis de Freycinet. There is so much to do and see here on the Peninsula allow 2 to 3 days to visit. Coles bay is located to the main entrance of Freycinet National Park and hosts cafes with all local foods , 2 IGA supermarkets and of course a pub. There is also a camping ground with all ammenities if you want to stay in luxury after your long walks or you can have your own private beach front in a tent with bush toilets near by.

Wine glass bay is one of Tasmania’s most beautiful beach locations. There are many entrance ways into this bay with different levels of walks for all different fitness levels. If you choose to go to the lookout without the walk you will look into the bay with the white sands and crystal blue waters and also amazing views of Mt Freycinet in the distance. If your more adventurous you can take the 1000 steps down to the bay and if you are lucky enough you may get to enjoy the dolphins swimming in the bay.. This walk will take you around 2+ hours dependent on how many times you want to take in the views. If you are taking any walks around this national park ensure you have the essentials (water) and warm clothing even if it is warm when you start.

If you choose not to walk there are cruises that take you into wineglass bay so you can enjoy the views from the water. You also have another option to see this beautiful national park by Freycinet Air Tasmania

Cape Tourville Light House is located next to wineglass bay and on a clear day you can see all the way down the coast. The walk to the Light House is a level 1 and offers wheel chair access. The walk has stunning views and if you visit during the Sydney to Hobart yearly yacht race you will see the boats travelling down the coast during late December. This is also a place where you can view wine glass bay from a different vantage point.

Mt Amos is also located in the National Park and is a grade 4 walk. Experience is recommended as the walks are long rough and steep. Suitable for physically fit and well equipped walkers. Mt Amos is a range of granite mountains known as the hazards which dominate the national park. This walk is not suitable when wet as you can slip. We did not get a chance to do this walk as it was raining the days we visited.

The views from where ever you choose to explore the park are all magnificent . Just down the road there is the Freycinet Marine Park so after your long hikes and day out you can treat yourself to some local seafood 🦞 and a well earned drink or two.
