Broome many years ago used to be known as the sleepy outback pearling town. It is now a vibrant unique cosmopolitan place to have on your bucket list. Broome is also the gateway to the Kimberley or Pilbara region ,so it is a good place to stop off enjoy the sites, stock up and relax.
Broome township is quite small but hosts so many beautiful beaches .They also provide a free bus service to take you to the main areas of town which is Old Broome, Town Beach and Cable Beach. We visited China Town which is historic, they have recently upgraded this area and introduced more art work to be displayed amongst the restaurants and walkways whilst still trying to keep with its Broome Identity. I personally was expecting an old derelict town with a few genuine places to see with pearls. How things have changed ..of course for the better and the tourism here keeps the town alive…and wealthy.
Cable beach is their iconic beach and well known for its sunsets and camel rides. The beach is 22km long and is located on the Indian Ocean. There are many trails here and also cultural tours.
We spent a week here in Broome visiting places like Mastso’s Brewery to Sunsets on Cable Beach. Our last 3 days were spent free camping at James Price Point. This gem is located North from Broome on the coast and is free for you to camp and enjoy without a permit or timeframe. Just ensure you have all the luxuries like a toilet and water. At James Point you get to enjoy the ocean view ,sunrises, sunsets and of course the beach and the milky way at night. A great place to visit and enjoy
