Stanley is another sea side community situated on the North West Coast of Tasmania. This is the second last major township on the North West Coast when travelling West . It is a small community with the population around 600. Stanley is a small fishing community and has 3 fish and chip shops. We could not resist and had to check out their seafood for lunch. There is a variety of fish to choose from we went with flake and a side of oysters. The fish was so fresh and delicious and the oysters were on point. I have no pics for you to see as i was ravished . There are also other options like curried pies or Mornay and Scallop or Crayfish pies different but very popular. They cater for most if you like seafood.

Stanley town its self is a well preserved town with a few of the original colonial buildings still remaining to today. This small town is very popular for tourist with the long beach walks and the Nut State Reserve . The Nut State Reserve is the main tourist attraction for this area. You can either walk up the 430m walk straight up i felt like I was crawling its great for your calves and lungs.or you have the choice of taking the chair lift for $12pp both ways. We walked up there and it was worth it when we got to the top for this spectacular view. Once you get up there you can then choose to do another 2km walk around the nut. After that steep walk we opted to then descend save our legs.

If you have time this place has so many walks you can do. Allow at least 1-2 days. There is limited accomodation here if you’re not camping . We opted to stay at Tall Timbers in Smithton which is free camping . You can also do your laundry and dry for $3 pure bargain when you’re travelling.

Smithton is a central to places like Edge of the World and many amazing other places in the North West Coast .

Stay at Tall Timbers Smithton ~ On grass free for 72 hours must be fully self contained.
