Armatree is a very small town located in the Outback of New South Wales. It is definitely off the beaten track from the main road . We were able to locate this little gem on our Camps 11 Guide Book that has helped us find unique destinations like this on our travels. Our trip in here was entertaining as we had many water crossings due to most of the outback being under water for some weeks.
This small town is part of Gilgandra Shire and is located 372km north of Sydney. We came here to visit and stay at the Pub which has been the winner of the BEST BUSH PUB in 2018,2019 . They really lived up to this on our one night stay.
The existing village was established during the construction of the Railway from Gilgandra to Coonamble in 1902-1903,during this period large camps of workers were engaged in this project and camped at Armatree.
The pub was established in 1929 as a family friendly hotel where like many outback pubs the locals come together and have a yarn and a beer. The new owners have overhauled the pub and now has beer gardens and a newly refurbished bar area.
They have opened up for campers on the plush green grass area for a small price of $15 or you can go further out the back for free. There are showers, toilets and laundry facilities so you can’t get any better than this.
The pub grub here is also excellent and very well priced. Bangers and Mash $18 with hearty servings you will not be disappointed bring a big appetite.
If your travelling in this area this place is well worth the visit, clean quiet and hosts a pub. This is all you need in the outback.
