Ceduna is the gateway from Western Australia and the Nullarbor into South Australia. This small town is also located on the West Coast of Eyre Peninsula . It is also known as the Oyster Capital of Australia. Ceduna is far enough from the hustle and bustle of city life and is surrounded by unspoilt beaches boarded by isolated bush land. It offers a lot of tourist spots to visit on your stay.
Our camping spot was located just out of town right on the beach. You had access to everything . The only spot to stay if you are visiting here.
The two days we visited this region we were faced with winds of up to 80+km so it was a bit gusty to go for long walks…..anywhere.
Ceduna is a place where you would stop and stock up before your travels west or south. There are a few places to visit in this small town, the local jetty and Arts and Culture Centre, there are also the fish factories where you can buy seafood. Unfortunately due to Covid they are like many places in the world short of staff so were not open to enjoy when we visited.
The surrounding places of Ceduna are a must to visit . Smoky bay is located South from Ceduna and is a 30 minute drive .Smoky bay is home to 20 oyster growers and a rejuvenated Jetty for all too enjoy. There is a shark proof swimming enclosure should you want to brave these cool waters in spring.
Denial Bay is a township located 12km west of Ceduna on sealed road and just after the quarantine point into South Australia. If your into fishing this is the place to be you can catch fish, squid, crabs in season from March to November.
We visited Brown Point which is located just on from Smoky Bay. This place is off the beaten track and is stunning. It offers secluded beaches where you can camp. If you choose to camp you have to be fully self-contained and pets are welcome. From this spot you will be able to see pods of dolphins going down the coast or the rough seas rolling in to shore. You will also be able to enjoy the rock pools and the amazing sunrise and sunsets.
On our next lap we will be coming here to camp. It is all free camping and you do not need to register as it is not a National Park.
