Denham (Shark Bay) is located on the coast of Western Australia and a mere 830kms North of Perth. It is known as the westernmost publicly accessible town in Australia and is named after CPT Henry Mangles Denham of the Royal Navy who chartered Shark Bay in 1858. The town today is a quaint little town that hosts so many tourists to the many attractions out here on the Peninsula . The town is also a gateway that provides so many options of accomodation choices for couples and families. If you want to get out into nature and explore this town you can camp at the Big Lagoon for a small fee which is located in Cape Peron, the views from the camping ground are spectacular. Some of the road in is on Sand so good suspension in your caravan is a must.

This place is also known as where the brilliant turquoise waters meets the red desert earth. Shark Bay is surrounded by Cape Peron National Park, Monkey Mia which you can swim and see the dolphins to Shell Beach which is located 43km back on the Peninsula and is well worth the visit. A bit about Shell Beach , the shells were quarried and hard packed and cut into blocks to construct historic buildings. One being the Old Pearler Restaurant close to our caravan park. The Restaurant is so popular bookings are essential.

Monkey Mia is also a favourite spot to visit for the tourist it is located 23kms from Denham. The cost to get into the park is $15 pp for 24hours. We were only there for an hour as the dolphin feeding has specific hours for feeding . It is a nice place more beaches to see but for the 50km return trip it’s your choice if you come here. I personally was expecting a bit more but each to their own.

Our favourite places were both Big and Small Lagoons. The water was so clear and very refreshing for the soul. Paul took the kayak out it was a bit windy no fish once again to be caught next time . We spent a couple of hours here reading our books in the Sun and taking the dogs for runs up and down the beaches. There was a lot of other avid minded people doing the same thing too.

Cape Peron is a must to visit. It is named after a French naturalist and Zoologist Francois Peron during his expedition of the Western Australia coast in 1801. In 1964 the land at Point Peron (Cape) was transferred from the Commonwealth to the State for its future significance and funding .The beaches here are so untouched. Just sitting here listening to the waves and sometimes seeing the many birds like shags that accompany these shores are amazing, along with the sharks, dugongs and many more.

This would have too be one of my favourite visits on our trip. There is so much to do or so much not to do. The pub grub is great here so are the bakery’s.

I loved everything and would highly recommend this place for a visit. Allow 4 days at least to take everything in whilst trying to relax. Enjoy 😉
