Bungle Bungles is a very unique and stunning place to visit. This beautiful place is located in Purnululu National Park and is part of the Kimberley Region. The Bungle Bungles were formed 360 million years ago and was used by the aboriginal people as their home for hundreds of years .The park was discovered in the 1980s by a film crew flying over this region which is now enjoyed as a main tourist adventure by so many people.

The Bungle Bungles are located 300kms South of Kununurra or 850kms east of Broome. The drive into the Visitors centre will take a 2 hour slow drive approximately (53kms)from the main highway, all on corrugated and dirt road. There are 4 water crossings on the way some quite deep. There are also two camping grounds in the park should you want to risk your camper or caravan (single axle only).

The park has a Aboriginal significance on the United Nations World Heritage list. Bungle Bungle meaning is ‘fretting sands’ from the Gija People of the land.

The best time to discover the park is early in the morning so you can see the sunrise over these magnificent rock formations or in the afternoon. The temperatures can get up to 30deg + during winter months so ensure you have an endless supply of water and sunscreen.

A bit about what you can see whilst exploring this place. To protect the rock formations inside the park you are unable to walk on any of them but they can be viewed from below. There are so many photo opportunities along the way to get that prized shot.

The Bungle Bungles are well known for their striking banded domes that look like beehives. Over the past 20 million years the erosion of creeks and rivers and weathering has caused this surreal landscape to form.

There are so many walks you can take and also some overnight camping walks for the avid hiker. You must purchase a pass before entering which sets you back $25 per car . Not a bad price for the attraction you get, this is valid for up to 5 days.

If you do not want to take the long drive into the park you may wish to part with $500 pp to see this place by helicopter. Check out the local tours for pricing.

I highly recommend this place you are left in absolute awe with the colourings and the unique landscape it has to offer. Put it on your bucket list for sure you will not be disappointed. Walks to complete are below. Allow yourself 2-3 hours as the walks are mainly on sand and spread over a large area. We completed this in just under 3 hours with a stop at the Look Out for Lunch. Happy Hiking.
