Ravenshoe was only a 23km drive from our previous camp in Milla Milla and Makenzie wanted to do her inaugural drive of Taj the caravan here. The roads were quite steep and she had her first oversized truck she to go past , she did so well. We arrived at our camp and were told there were platypus in the stream where we were camping. These animals did not disappoint they are Nocturnal so you could see them at 6am or at night floating just under the water

A bit about Ravenshoe , this is a small rural town population of 1400 and is located in the tableland region. The town is the highest point of the Misty Mountain walking tracks and hosts wildlife for platypus ,12 species of possums,340 bird species and 14 species of kangaroo. So it is an animal kingdom. Ravenshoe is the highest town in Queensland at 920m and also has the highest pub. We went to this iconic pub for dinner unfortunately the meals were pretty average.

We visited the Millstream Falls National Park which was just down the road from the camp. It was a steep walk down but the views were magnificent once you got there. The National Park also has plenty of walks so you can see all the wildlife this area offers.

The next day we decided to go to the local hot pools in Innot which is a 30km drive west from Ravenshoe. You can either choose to go into the river and find a nice warm spot or pay $10 per adult and go into the hot pools located in the Innot Hot Springs Leisure Camping Park. I did read the sign by the river that said BEWARE TEMPERATURES UP TO 75deg celcius, i decided to go straight in to the hot end i could barely walk, my feet started to swell and the excruciating pain was unbearable. I should have known this as there was no one else near by …lesson learnt. We then went into the hot pools. I decided to sit in the cold pools to soak my poor feet. The Hot Springs offers 4 different temperature pools to ensure everyone gets to enjoy these mineral pools.

Ravenshoe was a good resting spot and was time to say goodbye to our darling Pepe who will be going back home to New Zealand. It has been a wonderful road trip with him well await for his return.
