Milla Milla is a small town which is located at the Southern edge of the Atherton tablelands. We chose this place as it was close to CAIRNS . Mahia and Makenzie will be flying out from Cairns within days so we thought this would be a nice place to explore. Milla Milla has a small population of 514 in the census of 2016 and we met a few of the main locals.
Its elevation is 830m so coming from the warmth of Cairns 30+ deg arriving here at the park was a few degrees cooler for sure. This town is famously known for its waterfall trail, The Falls Teahouse,The Canopy Rainforest.
We visited the Milla Milla Waterfall Circuit which takes you to a trio of epic rainforest waterfalls in close proximity to each other. The trip around takes as long as you want. We saw some couples having a very refreshing swim at the first one. With Mahia (Pepe) in tow he wanted to explore them all and wanted to walk around most of them so this took us a good 2 hours. Very beautiful each one very unique.
Next up was Mungalli Creek Dairy which is very popular. We went out to the farm located 10 minutes from town. They are famous for their gourmet greek style and Natural set Yoghurts and soft cheese’s This is produced by the cows and chickens on the farm grazing on organic pastures all year round.
We took a stroll through the little quaint town and visited the local shops and cafes. Barista in the Mist is a must their reviews are top notch and so is their food. Paul and I had a Bacon and Egg muffin with fresh Aioli and the local chilli sauce. Makenzie had a Cheese and Tomato 🍅 Toastie and Mahia Scrambled Eggs with cream. We could not resist their homemade brownies. Everything here is locally sourced and was absolutely delicious.
As we stayed here for 3 days we wanted to soak up as much as we could so took a drive to Lake Eacham which is a 32km drive east of Milla Milla . When we arrived here we were in ore of its beauty. The lake is so blue which is hard to find in Australia. It is a very popular place to visit for tourist and locals. You can swim or Kayak in this beautiful lake, just be aware as there are many signs around you share this lake with fresh water crocs. They only bite you if you stand on them……no thanks i want my limbs ill stay out of the water. We did take the kayak out with pepe so i guess not for the faint hearted.
We had a great time here and loved meeting the locals of this little quaint town.
