We arrived in Cairns and saw the caravan park we will be staying in for the next week due to car troubles once again. On passing the camping ground on the highway it is a child’s paradise. It has everything to accomodate enthusiastic children from x2 playgrounds to water slides pools, games rooms and much much more. We chose this option as we still have Mahia with us and want to ensure he enjoys everything this place including the town of Cairns has to offer.
On check in i was pleasantly surprised that they accomodate for adults too, with adult only Spa’s and Happy hours everyday, So i guess i am set for the week.
On our first family day tour Makenzie and Matua included we took a day trip to Kuranda which is 39km west of Cairns. Kuranda is known for its Scenic Railway Rainforest Cableway and offers ocean views from the Gondola rides. The town is also very leafy and pretty with loads to do. We chose to go the the Butterfly Sanctuary located in this little village. We spent an hour here looking around and saw so many beautiful butterflies. The enclosure was quite small for the cost of $22.50 per adult it was a bit expensive but if you like butterflies come and visit there is so much information about these insects.
After our butterfly excursion we then went into the village and visited the local bakery and of course the Park for young Mahia. This town mainly relies on Tourism to survive so with the Kuranda Scenic Railway,Barron Falls and much more its well worth a visit .
We also visited the Cairns Aquarium. For a cost of $45 per adult infants free it is well worth the visit. The Aquarium offers a guided twilight tour and dinner and you can also visit the Turtle Hospital. If you really want to get amongst it you can also Dive with the Sharks in the Aquarium for $299 adults and $249 children.
You can walk along the Cairns Esplanade and visit the Rock pools which is located in the heart of Cairns and is a very popular place for everyone that likes to get out and about dogs included.
Due to our grandson having to go into hospital our tours around Cairns stopped here and was spent at the Cairns hospital or back at the camping ground.
A bit of history about Cairns , Cairns is known as the gateway to the Great Barrier Reef and is a city in Tropical Far North Queensland , In the Northwest you can find the Daintree National Parks and mountainous rainforest ,gorges and beaches. The city of Cairns is also close to Atherton Tablelands where our next couple of journey’s will take place. Cairns is also 40 minutes away from the famous Port Douglas central to everything
Come visit Cairns it well worth it
