We spent a week in Townsville as we have a +1 our beautiful (moko) grandson Mahia with us for the next couple of weeks life has become a bit more full on then what we are used too. Once again not for the faint hearted. This does not stop us from getting out and getting amongst it and finding out all the beauty and attractions this place has to offer.

Paul and i have been to Townsville before and love walking along The Strand which is the main beach located on the waterfront . The main part of The Strand is 2.5kms long and hosts so many cafes, rock pools and water parks for the young ones. You also get to see the beautiful Magnetic island on your walk also.

Magnetic island also known as Maggie sits out on the east coast 8kms from Townsville and has close to 2400 permanent residents on the Island. The Island ferry from Townsville leaves from Break water to Magnetic Island every day . There are local taxis on the Island , but If you really want to take advantage of what the Island has to offer you can also take your car over to give you more accessibility to the Island and the beaches. A beautiful place to escape for the weekend as there is accomodation on the Island too. You can also visit the Restaurants they have on Maggie with so many culinary choices this far up in Northern Queensland.

Townsville is also famous for hosting the largest Australian Army base called Lavarack Barracks and is home to the 3rd Brigade and 11th Brigade. The Army are often seen around town assisting. I have seen their recent efforts when the floods hit Townsville in recent times and their help and assistance to the locals greatly appreciated by all.

We also found time to climb the steep Castle Hill which gives the most beautiful view over this coastal town. You can either choose to walk up the road or up the many tracks they offer, Allow a few hours and take water it is a must. Walking with 1 baby 2 ageing dogs its well worth it when you get to the top.

We had a wonderful time here visiting family too thanks Katrina and Dean for having us.

Come and visit North Queensland it is a must…..dont forget any water activities after here BEWARE crocodiles are out
