We finally made it to the iconic town of Longreach. The town of longreach is located in Central Western Queensland and is 700kms from the east coast of Australia…making it a long drive if you enjoy the beach. There is a population of 3000 people and 4000 dogs, go figure they love their pets out west.

I was so excited to visit this place as i know it hosts the Qantas Founders Museum, and being an aviation enthusiast this place did not disappoint. When you are driving into Longreach the first thing you see is the HUGE red tail of the Qantas 747-200. We were quick to book our tickets and set off on the tour. The tour around the museum is guided for 90 minutes and you are free to explore the rest of then Museum at your leisure. The cost for this tour is $70pp and was well worth it. We went on 3 planes, the 747-200 the fancy cosmopolitan and the 707 which the Jackson 5 used to travel on. We then took ourselves on the self guided tour and went to the hangar where Queensland And Northern Territory Services fondly known as QANTAS was started over 100 years ago 16/11/1920.

The next tour we went on saw us speeding down the back roads of Longreach on the top of an old stage coach clinging on for dear life. This tour is run as an Old Cobb and Co tour. It starts off in town and takes 4 hours cost $120pp once again well worth it. You are greeted with scones, jam and cream and a drink of your choice then you head out for the quick trot around the town on the stage coach. I was looking forward to riding like a lady of leisure inside the coach but Paulie had other ideas to ride on top of the coach. This is not for the faint hearted you had to use some serious thigh muscles getting up and down from there. It was a very hair raising and enjoyable experience and glad we got to do it up high.

Longreach is full of different types of accomodation so everyone can come along and enjoy the tours this place has to offer. The IGA (Supermarket) is also another GEM when your in the outback fresh food is like gold and this place had it all. If you do not wish to drive here you can also arrive by plane or by train (spirit of the outback) which i will be boarding today to go back to Bris Vegas…..stay tuned.
