After leaving Charlotte Plains we headed North to this little town population of 3000. It Is the largest town South West Queensland so stock up on food, fuel and goods. Our accomodation is at the Cobb and Co Caravan Park within walking distance of the town. I am convinced every house here has one or two dogs that are on guard at all times. Taking our two hooligans for a walk would have woken the entire neighbourhood up at 7am this morning. The town host x2 IGA Supermarkets which are well stocked a couple of pubs and a pharmacy so everything you need in the outback.
We chose to stay here for a couple of days to recharge our batteries literally, relax and visit some of the tours they have to offer here. So first up was the Charleville Bilby Experience. We had a very enthusiastic tour guide that talked about the Bilby’s life and trying to preserve them as a species, as there so many wild species here in the outback that are trying to survive themselves. For $22pp for the Bilby Tour it was well worth it and is hosted at the Charleville Train Station….very random.
We then stumbled on the WW11 Secret Base which was obviously a secret base here in Charleville located on Qantas Drive Cost $8pp self tour. The tour is very interactive and well laid out for the cost. The base is located on the same road as Charleville Airport. Well worth a visit.
Tourist come to Charleville to restock and to visit the attractions i have listed. We did not have a chance to go to the Cosmos which is located 2 kms out of town but have heard it is a must on your visit to this town.
