Camp Hosts Charlotte Plains (Bore)
We had the privilege of being the First camp hosts at this lovely destination called Charlotte Plains.
Charlotte Plains is located 800kms west of Brisbane in Outback Queensland. We had visited the property in 2020 and had put in our interest to come along and work as volunteers to help the property owner Robyn Russell out on the farm and with the Bore (Artesian Bath) area.
First of all a little bit about this slice of paradise. Charlotte Plains is family owned station and in 2023 will be the 100 year anniversary . The property is 70,000 acres and has sheep and cattle, emus, kangaroos , goats and 122 different species of birds. The property still hosts the original homestead, Shearers Shed and quarters and of course the Magical Artesian Bore. The bore area hosts 14 baths and the bore to swim in plus an oversize tub so lots of room for all. They offer a few different types of accomodation here on the station, Powered and Non Powered camping site and Shearers Quarters. The roads around the property are all red dirt so 4×4 would be your recommended type of vehicle should you want to come and visit.
Our time here as hosts has been a very busy and rewarding time for both of us and we have enjoyed it immensely. We have been here for a month and have met so many incredible people, dogs you name it.
I loved welcoming people on to the property and seeing their faces as they arrived at the bore of the sheer beauty.
The stories from like minded travellers like us around a camp fire and happy hour was also an absolute highlight of my day. We worked closely with our A team Alison + Cam (Tourism Managers) and of course the beautiful Robyn Russell (Owner) to ensure we made our guests stay a memorable experience with a touch of excitement and glamour.
Our days were taken up cleaning and restocking of the facilities, property tours, selling merchandise, rubbish duties, entertainment , weather disruptions , and talking to guests. You put into the role what you want and we both put our heart and soul into this hosting role and have enjoyed every moment. There are so many great moments and stories i could share too many to remember first and too many to tell.
After 30 Bonfires and Happy hours, Property Tours, Queues of caravans down the drive way, Stew and damper nights,Scones made on the fire, Bunny Hunts for Easter, Movie night’s and a dawn service for Anzac day, Countless 42deg night time baths under the stars and Milky Way, Amazing Sunrises and Sunsets ,we are ready to continue our journey back on the road to complete our First Lap around Oz. We will leave with sadness in our heart but will return next year for the 100 year celebration.
I highly recommend a visit to this wonderful beauty you will not be disappointed. We love you Charlotte Plains thank you for the Memories. xox
