We arrived into Glen Innes with Little Boy the Boston and Big Boy Tucker. We stayed at Glen Innes Show grounds which is a 5 min walk to the centre of town.
Glen Innes is best known for their Celtic heritage and their Tartan is a light blue. In addition to this, the town is well know as a Sapphire town. We didn’t have the chance to fossick for any, however, we visited the Australian Standing Stones which is free and 2kms from town. A must to go and see it looks over the town and has some interesting history. It looks a bit like stone hedge (on a very miniature scale). Glen Innes is a small town with Anzac Park and a small river which runs on the side of town. The buildings here are so historic the locals really embrace their heritage. Somedays you can hear the local Celtic bands playing on the side of the streets . The locals wake up early here for sure. We were out walking at 7am and the locals were coming out the local butchers and shops with their groceries. Typical Country town up early then siesta in the middle of the day. Most shops close at 2pm so be sure to get in early.
